Final cake!

I just finished my cake course (4 weeks) and here is the final cake! We learned how to make all those flowers, birds, etc. throughout the first 3 weeks, and then brought a frosted cake to put them all on. We also topped it off with the basket weave around the cake and rope border.
The girls couldn't believe the final outcome and immediately wanted to pick off some flowers and eat it! I couldn't bear to cut into it for a whole day, but we finally gave in. It made me about sick to see the girls eat the flowers and all the butter cream frosting and leave the actual cake. Now that's some straight sugar! I preferred the other way and just ate the cake with a TINY amount of frosting. The cake was delish, chocolate devils food with white chocolate mousse filling. YUM!

Holy Shnikies!! That thing is seriously impressive. Job WELL done!

Did you enjoy doing it?

How long did it take?

Did you do the basket weaving on the actual cake... or did you complete the weaving then place it on the cake?

The flowers are amazing!

Izzie said she wants a High School Musical cake this year for her birthday.. you'll have to help me with some ideas! ;)

Yeah, I had a great time making it. I loved doing the flowers! I went a little crazy on the colors though and they turned out a little more fluorescent then I wanted :)

Putting the cake together was probably only an hour. That included piping on the basket weave (a lot easier than it looks) the rope borders and "gluing" on the flowers that I had made the previous weeks.

High School Musical...how fun! I can definitely help with ideas. Is she having a party up there?

Love it! Wow, I agree not wanting to cut into it and what is it with kids and thinking the flowers are the best part. I'm with you, cake and a little icing. AND Wow, 35 days and counting. Numero tres will be here soon.
